Principles of Design

I took this picture of my mother's necklace. It was taken at night. The picture was taken in my bedroom. I took this picture to show emphasis. I took this photo by placing the necklace on a shirt of mine. I then used the portrait setting and tried to focus my camera so that I could get extremely close without making the image appear too artificial. I chose an orange shirt because I felt that this color would make the necklace appear even prettier with the help of a color that complements it. Color can be seen in this photo because of the gold and white on the necklace and the orange shirt on wich the necklace is placed. Emphasis is also noticeablebecause of the close proximity of the necklace along with the blurred background that seems to help drift the attention to the necklace.

This picture was taken of the golden gate bridge. I took this picture at sunset. I took this picture because this is my favorite bridge! I used the landscape setting on my camera so that I could make it come out as clear as possible. Space is illustrated in this image because the bridge is in focus therefore it is positive space, while the background is blurred so it is negative space. Emphasis is also shown because the bridge is in focus, while the hills are blurred, so the attention is focused on the bridge.

Altered Image

I took this photo as my mother was driving me home from school. In it, I included a car along with the sky. I took this picture a little bit before sunset. This photo was taken in Burlingame. I took this photo because the sky looked really pretty, and as I was about to take it, a car drove by and I decided that I wanted it in the shot. This picture was taken using the sport setting because I wanted to capture the car in this exact spot. Space can be seen because the car is positive space and the sky is negative space. Asymmetry is also shown because I did not want the car to be in the center, and steal the whole scene, rather I wanted it on a third line so that I would be able to get the right balance of a car and the sky. I altered this image by setting the car in photoshop, then I inversed it so that the sky was selected. I used the blur tool to blur out the sky so that the car was emphasized.

Elizabeth Murray

This is a picture of a flower located on the side of my house. I took this picture as my representation of an image taken by the landscape photographer, Elizabeth Murray. I took this image at sunrise. I took the photo by using a portrait setting on my camera so that I would not only be able to get close to the flower, but also not lose any focus or detail. Color can be seen because of the bright pink flower with green leaves all leaning against my pale yellow house. Asymmetry is shown because of the fact that I did not center my flower; instead I purposely made it fall on a third line.

Actor Head Shot

Brenda Martinez is the girl in this photo. This is her joy head shot. I took this photo during advisory. The image was taken in the art studio. We were supposed to take headshots of someone from the play , while they posed showing various emotions. I used reflects in this image to bring in light to really bring up the mood. In order to try and even out the light, I used the dodge tool on photoshop. Value can be seen in this photo, because her hair is very dark, while the rest of the image is light. This image shows unity by the way her hands are waving in the air. This hand movement contributes to the joyous mood. Without her arms positioned there, the picture you not be as happy.

Self Portrait

I took another self portrait of myself in this photo. This was taken after school. I took it on the green. I took another self portrait because Ms. Noccetti gave me bubbles so I wanted to retake my self portrait to show that I have a bubbly personality. I took this photo by placing it on backpacks with two textbooks steadying it. I used flash because I wanted to freeze the image. The bubbles create shape and form because they are round. The bubbles also show texture because they appear watery. Since bubbles are included in the image, movement is shown because they continuously elevate until they pop. I emphasize the lower half of my face by cropping out the rest of my face. Unity is shown because the shapes of my lips show that I was blowing that bubble, which connects the two of us!

Self Portrait

The girl in this image is me; therefore it is a self portrait! I took this picture on the green after school. Taking self portraits was an assignment because it is important to learn how to take one correctly rather than using your arm and taking it because that deforms your image. I took this image by stacking up backpacks, then placing two textbooks on either side of my camera so as to elevate it and hold it steady. I set the camera to self timer. I then chose the most clear and focused shot. This picture illustrates value because I am wearing quite dark clothing, while the background is very bright. Emphasis is shown because I included the background, but made myself appear larger so that the eye would automatically focus on me.
