ad council

I took these photos of my sister, Ella. These photos were taken inside and outside my house and at Mercy on Friday afternoon. Basically our assignment was to create a campaign for the ad council. My slogan was, “Don’t follow the crowd, be unique and proud!” I completed this assignment by first picking out eight of my favorite outfits. I then asked my sister to model them for me. I had locations in mind as I was choosing clothes, so I knew where to go. I told my sister the emotions I wanted to get out of each shot and she did so accordingly. I chose fashion as my campaign because it is something that relates to everyone. All people are different and I believe that fashion helps enhance their individuality. By taking pictures of unusual outfits I was able to show how people can demonstrate their uniqueness with their clothing. This shows unity because each picture revolves around fashion. It also shows color because of the vibrant outfits.

ad shot

I tried to take an advertisement of pixie sticks. I emptied out all of the pink, blue, and purple packets and place it in a cool looking glass. I then put the orange packets in the glass, while they were still safely enclosed in their packets. I put the glass on top of my fireplace in order to get a plain background at arond 6:00pm. Our assignment was to take a picture that would be designed for an advertisement. I wanted to try and make the shot different and unique, so I chose pixie sticks. This picture shows unity because the words and the images complete the ad and make it one photo. This picture also shows color by the colorful words and pixie powder. (this photo was impossible to post because it was edited and became an indd)

toyyyyy

I took this photo of Hermoine Granger, Harry Potter, and Ron Weasley. They are my friend's toys. I took this photo against the wall, but photoshoped it to make the background dark gray so as to provide a sense of unity. I took it on Saterday morning around 7:00am. I created this image by shooting each person individually and merging them together on photoshop. I used the macro setting to make the image in focus. Since I did not own any cool toys, I remebered seeing these in my friend's house, so I asked if I could photograph them.....and I DID! I love the harry potter books....so seeing the doll version was cool......so i picked them for my toy project. This picture shows unity by the way that each are wearing the same uniform and by the way that the background complements their uniforms. This also shows space because the people are postive space since they are in the front and the background is negative since it is in the back.

narrative

Our assignment was to take a narrative picture of someone. I decided to do my picture of my best friend Ayra Joyce. In order to take an accurate picture, I went to her house Monday afternoon. I took this photo by going into her room and taking the most craziest thing in her room. I went to her bathroom and tried to place them at an angle. I placed the objects this tile because it provides variety in the photo. I controlled the lighting by letting in just enough from the windows and rolling down the blinds on the rest. Since our assignment was to take a narrative picture, I wanted to choose someone I knew very well. I have known Ayra Joyce since 7th grade and have been best friends with her ever since. So I figured since I know her very well and can paint an accurate indirect portrait of her.......I will just choose her......and I did! This picture demonstrates line by the way that the tiles lead the eye to the shoes. This also shows emphasis by the way that the shoes are in the center thus making it the focus of the photo. (the final image is an indd and is therefore impossible to post)

stop motion video

I made this stop motion video of my friends on the grass of Mercy. I was not sure what sort of motion to do, so I asked my friends to do cartwheels. I took the photos after school. In class we studied a photographer who used multiple cameras to capture one motion, such as walking. Our assignment was to mimic his idea of motion photography. I asked my firends to do cartwheels, as I set my camera on continuous, so as to capture their motion. In order to not create a blur, I tried to follow the motion as much as possible. Some of the photos were hard to take, not because following the action was difficult, but because the lighting of the area was either TOO much or TOO little!!! I tried to pick a nice spot to take the photos, but sadly.....some didnt turn out sooooo grrrrreat. I tried to fix it on photoshop.....but sadly there were still some that werent so great.......... ps...the program i used made the video tiny....so since this stretches out the video they are a little blurrrrry.

falling picture

I took these pictures of a mardi gras necklace on my back porch at around 4:00pm. I place my camera on top of a book so that it would remain steady. I dropped the necklace and tried to capture it in midair. Our assignment was to take a picture of a moving object so I decided to use a necklace because I figured it would be able to show flow and the motion of falling down best. These pictures show movement / rhythm because the necklace is in the process of falling. Emphasis is also apparent because the only object in each picture is the necklace and the necklace is in the center.

kitchen picture

I took a picture of a strainer in my kitchen at around 5:00pm on sunday evening. I used the macro setting on my camera so that I could get really close to the camera without losing much detail. I then went on photoshop and tried to blur out parts of the image so that it was focused on only a section of the image. Our assignment was to take a picture of either a bathroom product or a kitchen product, so I picked a ktchen product. I wanted to take a picture of something that others would have a hard time figuring out what it is. Not to be mean or anything......but because it makes the picture cooler if someone has no idea what it is. This picture shows asymmetry because the point at which the metal poles touch lies on a third line. This also shows emphasis because I kept one portion of the image in focus, while the rest was blurred.

still life

Our assignment was to pick a quote and take a picture that captyres the essence of that quote. I decided to use a quote from Dr. Bunsen Honeydew from "The Muppets Show" episode #2.12 (1977). For the picture of this quote, I went down to the science lab in russell and took out some beakers and took a picture of them. I took this picture at around 7:40am. I layed out 10 beakers and put them in a pyramidal figure. I then put my camera on the macro setting so that I could get close to the objects while not losing detail. This picture shows unity because the individual beakers come together to form one image. It also shows shape and form because the beackers are in a pyramidal figure and each individual beacker is a rectangular shape.

ZOOOOOOOOO - pop art

okay so the picture just WONT load.....so im gonna try and put it up later.....but for now i'll just do my write up. I took a picture of a flamingo at the sf zoo at around 11:30. I took one picture of the flamingo and photoshoped it with different colors. I placed all six different colored images next to each other in photoshop.....and made my pop art image. I wanted to make pop art because I wanted to show all the different ways one can portray a single image. This photo shows color because each image is different. It also shows unity because each section of the photo comes together to make a single image.

ZOOOOOOOOO - my choice 2

I took this picture of a penguin at the sf zoo while he was swimming at around 12:00pm. I took this picture by zooming in on the penguin so as to not get all the other penguins around him. I took this picture because he looked so natural. This picture shows emphasis because he is in the center. This picture also shows color becuase of the green, black, and white.

ZOOOOOOOOO - my choice 1

I took this picture of a hamster at the sf zoo in the children zoo section at around 12:00. I took this picture by kneeling down and zooming in on the hamster. I took this picture because I thought it was very cute! This picture shows assymetry because he lies on a third line. It also shows emphasis because he is the only thing in the photo and is also in the center.

ZOOOOOOOOO - formal

I took this picture of a lion in his habitat at the sf zoo at around 11:30am. I took this photo by zooming in the window so as to not get so many objects in the shot. I took this picture because he was just looking right at me.....so I mostly got him in the shot. This shows emphasis because the lion is the largest thing in the photo. This also shows color because of the green and the brown.

ZOOOOOOOOO - environmental

I took this picture of a monkey sitting on a branch at around 11:00am at the sf zoo. I took this picture by zooming in and using the vivid green mode on my camera so that the leaves would be as detailed as possible. It took me a while to take this picture because he kept looking away. I had to be patient and sneeky! I just about gave up after a while because he wouldn't look at me, so I turned back......and OUT OF NO WHERE.....he looked frontward.....so i turned around and got that shot! This shows emphasis on the monkey because he is directly in the middle. It also shows color because of the green trees and leaves.

grand landscape showing layers

I took this picture at mission dolores park in mission district at sunset. I took this photo by taking individual parts of the park and putting it together on photoshop. I then changed the value of each layer therby enabling the eye to see each individual layer. I took it of this park to show grand landscape. This photo shows color because of the green, white, and blue. It also shows space because the green is positive and in focus while the white and blue is negative and blurred.

Stella

I took this picture of a dog named "Stella." I took it by the Mercy pool at around 7:30. I took it by getting very close to stella and not using a flash because I did not want to scare Stella. We were assigned to take a picture of a pet, but since I did not own a pet, I took it of a dog whose owner works for Mercy. This picture has emphasis because Stella is in the middle. It also has line by the way that Stella's eyes lead to the beginning of the pool.

vertical landscape photography

I took this picture of a tree located at the back of the mercy wing at around 7:30am. I took it by dividing the tree into three parts. The first part was the bottom of the tree, the second was the middle, and the third was the top. I used the color vivid mode so that it would retain the colors of the tree to the hightest value. I took a picture of this tree because it is full of life and color. This picture has color becuase the tree is pink. This photo also has vertical line because the bottom of the tree leads the eye to the top.

Water

I took this picture of a fountain at the SF Zoo at noon time. I took this by using a slow shutter so that it was blurred. I also put the priority mode on "cloudy day." I took this picture because I liked this fountain a lot. It was very pretty. Once taking it, I realized it was nicer than my other water photos. The fountain is emphasized by its large size and the fact that it is placed in the middle. Balance is also in this image by the way that the trees cover the top and the water covers the bottom.

Drive home

I took this photo of the street on my way home from Mercy. This photo was taken around 3:30. At this point in my drive home, I was at skyline. I took this picture by keeping my hand steady and trying to capture an interesting moment in my ride home. My reason behind doing this was not only because my assignment was to take pictures on my ride home, but also because I wanted to try to improve taking pictures from a car because it's harder than it looks so it doesnt always turn out nice. This photo displays assymetry because the silver car lies on a third line making it the focus of the image. The vertical lines of the road and trees lead the eye to the car.

Detail photo

I took these photos of lightbulbs that were for sale. I took this picture in the afternoon around 2:00. The photo was taken at a store in downtown SF. For the first image I used the macro setting on my camera in order to place emphasis on it. For the second image I used the regular setting but tilted my camera so that I would get the picture from a different viewpoint. I took this photo because we were assigned to take detailed photos. I wanted to get a detail picture of something unusal and cool at the same time. I went downtown with a few friends and ended up seeing these bulbs. It fit the exact description I was going for, so I took a picture of it! The first image shows emphasis because it is the biggest thing in the photo and is also place in the center. The second image shows line by the way that the poles all went vertically down thus leading the eye to the lightbulb.

Cathedral

I took this picture of a chandelier in the cathedral. This was taken at about 7:30 in the morning. I took this picture to show the details in the cathedral that would normally be overlooked. When we first walked into the cathedral, it was farely dark. Most of the lights were off, except for a few. I really liked how only some of them were one, so I decided to take a picture using one that is on and one that is off. In photoshop, I made the background slighly darker, and the chandelier slightly lighter by using the burn and dodge tools. Assymetry can be seen in the photo because the chandelier lies on a third line making it the focus of the photo. Space can also be seen in this photo because the chandelier is in front, colored, and in focus, making it positive space; while the background is in the back, dark, and blurred.

photo essay

I took these photos of my cousin and her new husband at her wedding. The wedding festivities took place at a hall in santa clara. The images were taken throughout the day. I took these photos because I wanted to capture different moments at her wedding. I took these photos by constantly moving around, I had to find the perfect angle and fast because people are always moving. I tried to get a variety of picture to show everything that was going on. Some shots required macro so as to not lose data. Some required flash because the lights were off in the hall. Others required a fast shutter speed so that I would not miss the action. Value can be seen in th cake image because the cake is white and the backgorund is black. Symmetry and asymmetry can be seen because my cousin is either in the center or on a third line. Texture and color can be seen by her gown.

Story Photos

I took these photos at my friend's house in Daly City. These were taken around 11:00 am. My friend and I had threw our other friend a surprise wedding shower. The theme was tea party! After setting the table, I decided to take pictures of it as my story photos because it reminded me of Alice in Wonderland. For the first image I used the indoor setting so that the image would turn out as clean as possible. For the seecond image is used the macro setting so as to not lose detail on the tea cup. Line is represented by the way that the tea cups and food are vertical. Color is shown by the pink and white elements in the photo. Variety is shown by the food.

Street Photography

This Picture is also at Mercy. I took this picture of two paths, one leading to the creek and the other leading back to Mercy. I took this photo probably around 7:35ish. In english class we were reading poetry, so when I was walking around Mercy trying to take street photos, I stumbled across these two paths and instantly thought of Robert Frost's poem "The Road Not Taken." I took this photo by using the landscape setting. I had to crouch down so that I could get more of the path than the trees. Lines are evident in the photo through the trees. Texture is also by the dirt's roughness and the cement's smoothness.

Panaramic Photo

I took this photo of my neighborhood in Pacifica. This photo consists of 10 individual photos. I used my camera to pan a section in my neighborhood. I took this photo right before sunset. I created a panaramic photo of my neighborhood because it is the most familiar piece of architecture I have ever known. I have lived in this neighborhood my whole life! In photoshop, I was able to put each of the individual photos together in order to form one giant image. Asymmetry is shown by the way that the brown house is on a third line. Line is shown by the way that the cars lead to the houses. Space is created between the sky and the houses.

Mercy!

This is a picture of some trees and benches at Mercy High School. I took this photo on the path towards Russell. The photo was taken around 7:30 am. I thought it depicted Mercy pretty well because Mercy is a really hospitable place, kind of like benches. It welcomes all kinds of people and helps shape their character. Benches let all kinds of people sit on them and enables them to think about their lif and make decisions that wll eventually shape their charcter. I took this photo by using the landscape setting on my camera. I did not use flash because I wanted to get natural light in the photo.

sport photo

This weekend I went bowling with my friends, so I took some pictures as my sport photography because bowling IS a sport. The photo I have chosen is of a friend of mine. I took it around 1. I took this photo by panning. There are lines in the photo which create order in the photo. The girl is also on a third line, which puts the focus on her.
